Nordico Nitro is our answer to a question we kept hearing in our café, our roastery and in conversations with customers around the world: can you take Costa Rican specialty coffee and turn it into a clean, modern drink that fits into any fridge, gym bag or minibar?

The result is a nitro cold brew Costa Rica RTD that connects our work at origin with European brewing technology and the way people actually live, move and drink today. It’s called Nordico Nitro Cold Brew – and this is the story behind it.

Why we created a nitro cold brew RTD

Running a roastery and café in Costa Rica means living in two worlds at the same time:

• At origin, with farmers, cooperatives and microlots, and

• In daily service, with customers who want good coffee that fits their lifestyle.

On hot days in Guanacaste, people don’t always want a hot cappuccino. They want something cold, refreshing and clean – but many of the obvious options are sugary energy drinks or canned coffees loaded with cream, sugar or artificial flavours.

We kept asking ourselves:

What if we could offer a drink that has the energy of a “Red Bull moment”,
but starts from real specialty coffee and avoids all the sugar and additives?

That question turned into Nordico Nitro Cold Brew.

Costa Rican coffee, brewed & canned in Europe

The coffee inside every Nordico Nitro can starts in Costa Rica.

We work with specialty Arabica coffees from our network of producers and partners, roast them for cold brew, and then collaborate with a trusted partner in Europe to brew and can the drink under European sanitary standards.

Why Europe?

Because the level of cold-brew and nitro canning technology we wanted simply does not exist in Costa Rica yet at this scale. By brewing and canning in Europe, we can:

• Use modern Hardtank® cold-brew extraction and nitro technology

• Guarantee consistent quality and food safety

• Create a product that is ready not only for Costa Rica, but for shelves in Europe, the Americas and beyond

The result is a drink that combines:

• Costa Rican origin & story, and

• European process & certification,

in one can.

What’s inside (and what isn’t)

From the beginning, the idea was simple: short ingredient list, long story.

Each can of Nordico Nitro Cold Brew is built on four key ingredients:

• Water

• Arabica coffee cold-extracted using Hardtank® technology

• Prebiotic inulin

• Nitrogen

That’s it.

• No sugar added

• No dairy

• No preservatives

• No artificial flavours

• Almost no calories

Per 100 ml, the drink sits at just a couple of kilocalories, with 0 g of sugar. What you feel is the effect of real coffee – roughly 180 mg of natural caffeine per 200 ml can – delivered in a way your body already understands.

Flavour and texture: like a stout, but coffee

If you pour Nordico Nitro into a glass, the first thing you see is the nitro cascade: the liquid falls in slow layers, settling into a dense, creamy head.

On the palate, the profile leans towards:

• Chocolate and cocoa

• Roasted nuts

• A gentle, natural sweetness from the coffee itself

There’s no sticky, syrupy feeling. Because there is no sugar added, the aftertaste is clean and dry – more like a good cold brew you’d get in a specialty café than a dessert in a can.

You can drink it straight from the can on the go, or pour it into a glass when you want to enjoy the texture properly.

Why this is innovative for Costa Rica

Costa Rica is famous for its coffee, but until now most of the innovation has stayed at the farm and roastery level: new varieties, processing methods, microlots.

With Nordico Nitro we wanted to bring innovation to the ready-to-drink side as well:

• Using Costa Rican specialty coffee as the heart of an RTD

• Brewing and canning with Hardtank® nitro cold-brew technology in Europe

• Creating a clean-label energy drink alternative that still tells an origin story

To our knowledge, this combination does not currently exist in the Costa Rican market: a Costa Rica–rooted, nitro cold brew RTD produced under European standards and designed for supermarkets, gyms, hotels, gas stations, convenience stores and cafés.

For us as a small PYMES-registered company, member of ICAFE and SCA Costa Rica, it is also a way to:

• Give local producers another channel and story for their coffee

• Show that innovation from Costa Rica can travel far beyond our borders
