Coffee, ritual and longevity in Nicoya.

Nicoya is studied for exceptional longevity. Nordico’s LIVE ZONE does not promise that a coffee will make anyone live longer. It connects people with a remarkable place—and turns evidence-informed lessons about food, movement, purpose, community and recovery into practical daily rituals.

THE SHORT ANSWER

It is a system of habits—not a miracle ingredient.

Research has documented historically unusual survival patterns among older adults—particularly men—in parts of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula. No single food, drink or behaviour explains that pattern. Longevity is shaped by many interacting factors, including genetics, social conditions, access to care, environment and lifelong habits.

Coffee belongs in this story as an agricultural product, a social ritual and a daily moment of connection. It is not a medical treatment and it is not a guarantee. LIVE ZONE uses coffee and other Costa Rican products as gateways into a broader, more useful question: Which everyday practices can help people build healthier, more connected and more meaningful lives?

PLACE BEFORE PRODUCT

Why Nicoya became part of the longevity conversation.

The Nicoya Peninsula lies in north-western Costa Rica. Demographic research identified a historical longevity advantage in a core area of the peninsula, especially among men born before the mid-twentieth century. The finding made Nicoya internationally known as a longevity region.

That recognition should not flatten Nicoya into a marketing slogan. It is a living region with diverse communities, economic realities, Indigenous heritage, agriculture and changing health patterns. More recent research suggests that the historical advantage is not automatically continuing in younger generations. That makes the lessons more—not less—important: supportive environments and healthy habits must be actively maintained.

EVIDENCE BEFORE HYPE

What the research can support—and what it cannot.

Reasonable conclusion

Long-term health is influenced by patterns: nutritious food, regular movement, social connection, purpose, recovery, healthcare, environment and socioeconomic conditions.

Unreasonable conclusion

A specific coffee, mineral, ingredient or supplement is the “secret” that causes exceptional longevity.

Nordico’s standard

Products can support rituals and make positive choices easier. Claims must remain achievable, transparent and proportionate to the evidence.

THE LIVE ZONE RITUAL FRAMEWORK

Six areas that can shape a better daily rhythm.

01

Nutrition

Build meals around minimally processed foods, plants, fibre, legumes, seasonal produce and portions that support—not overwhelm—the day.

02

Natural movement

Make movement part of ordinary life: walking, carrying, gardening, working, climbing and spending time outdoors—not only scheduled exercise.

03

Community

Protect relationships. Shared meals, conversation, mutual support and participation are health resources, not optional extras.

04

Purpose

A clear reason to get up and contribute—often described in Costa Rica as a plan de vida—can organise choices and strengthen resilience.

05

Recovery

Create reliable moments to slow down, sleep, breathe, spend time in nature and move out of constant urgency.

06

Ritual

Use small repeated actions—morning coffee, a walk, a shared meal or an evening pause—to make good intentions easier to sustain.

These principles can support health, but individual outcomes vary. People with medical concerns should seek qualified professional advice.

COFFEE AS CULTURE

Where coffee belongs in the story.

In Costa Rica, coffee can be agricultural work, hospitality, livelihood, flavour and a reason to sit together. Its value is larger than caffeine. The ritual can create a pause, support conversation and connect the person drinking it with the people and landscapes that produced it.

Research on coffee and health is broad and continues to evolve. Population studies often associate moderate coffee consumption with several favourable outcomes, but association is not proof that one coffee causes a longer life. Preparation, dose, individual health, sleep and what is added to the cup all matter.

Nordico therefore presents coffee from Nicoya as coffee from a longevity region—not as “longevity coffee.” Its strongest claim is authentic: it is a product of place, selected and roasted by a Costa Rican specialty coffee roastery.

LIVE ZONE · NICOYA

A coffee collection—and a doorway into a wider way of living.

Nordico’s LIVE ZONE collection highlights coffees connected with the Nicoya Peninsula and its communities. Current lots from Cerro Negro and Matambú show that the region is not one uniform flavour: variety, altitude, harvest, processing and roasting still determine what reaches the cup.

The long-term LIVE ZONE platform extends beyond coffee. It can include ready-to-drink products, Costa Rican foods, education, experiences and a practical ritual booklet that helps people experiment with nutrition, movement, connection, purpose and recovery.

Preguntas frecuentes

Questions about Nicoya, coffee and longevity.

Does coffee from Nicoya make you live longer?

No. Nordico does not make that claim. Longevity is influenced by many factors, and no individual coffee can guarantee a health outcome.

Why connect coffee with a longevity region at all?

Because coffee is part of the region’s agriculture and social culture. It provides an authentic gateway into learning about place, community and sustainable daily rituals.

What does LIVE ZONE mean?

LIVE ZONE is Nordico’s name for a responsible product and education platform inspired by Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula. It is not an affiliation with any third-party longevity brand.

Are the ritual principles medical advice?

No. They are general educational ideas. Individual dietary, exercise and health decisions should be discussed with qualified professionals when appropriate.

Is every coffee from Guanacaste a LIVE ZONE coffee?

No. The designation is used only for products whose verified origin and story fit the collection. Product pages should identify producer, place, process and availability accurately.
