Bring Your Own Packaging: Save 15% & Cut Waste

Great coffee shouldn’t create great piles of trash. At Nordico we’re launching a Bring Your Own Packaging program: show up with a clean container, buy your beans in bulk, and save 15%. It’s our way of doing the right things, right—reducing waste while keeping your coffee fresher for longer.

Bring Your Own Packaging (BYOP) — How It Works

  1. Bring a clean, dry container.

  2. Pick your favorite coffee (whole bean or ground).

  3. Choose your size (250 g, 500 g, 1 kg, 3 kg).

  4. Get 15% off at checkout.

Why it matters

  1. Less single-use packaging going to landfill.

  2. Lower footprint from materials and transport.

  3. Fresher coffee when stored in your own airtight jar.

  4. A small action that adds up—every refill counts.

  5. Nordico’s sustainable coffee refill program lets you buy bulk coffee beans with your own container in Tamarindo—cutting waste and saving money.

What to Bring for BYOP (Quick Guide)

The best BYOP containers are clean, dry, food-safe and airtight. Glass or stainless jars with a wide mouth make refills fast and keep aromas pure. As a rule of thumb, a 0.75–1 L jar holds ~500 g of beans; 1.8–2 L holds ~1 kg. Bring your lid—we’ll weigh the tare before filling so you pay for coffee only.

Prefer whole bean for freshness (we’ll grind for your brew method on request). Label your jar with the coffee name + roast date before you leave. Reusing a Nordico zipper coffee bag or an airtight jar is ideal for bulk refills and freshness. BYOP discount excludes Typical Warm & Geisha.

Storage & Freshness Tips

Keep coffee airtight, cool, and away from light. Avoid the fridge (condensation) and only freeze if you must—use small, sealed portions and let them come to room temp before opening. For most home brewers, a 250 g refill stays vibrant for 2–4 weeks. Clean jars with unscented soap, dry completely, and store valves/lids loosely when empty. Need help dialing in? Our baristas will advise grind size for V60, Chemex, espresso, or French press.

Bring Your Own Packaging: Cleanliness & Tare

We keep refills safe, quick, and accurate. Before filling, our barista weighs your empty container to record its tare, so you only pay for coffee. Please bring a clean, dry, food-safe jar; if you’re unsure, we’ll do a quick check and can sanitize contact surfaces as needed. Prefer ground coffee? We grind after weighing to avoid residue in your container and to match your brew method. We’ll label the jar with the coffee name and roast date, and share storage tips before you go. Forgot a container today or don’t have one? You can also bring an empty Nordico coffee bag with a zipper— many of our zipper bags can be reused for refills.

What We Do With Waste

Every day we separate our waste to keep materials in the loop. Organic waste goes back to the farm for natural compost; recyclables go to a local center.

What we collect (organics): coffee grounds, fruit peels, leftover bread/pastries, food scraps (no packaging), unprinted napkins.
Not in organics: plastic, aluminum, glass, greasy/adhesive packaging, chemicals or cigarette butts.
