Costa Rica entrepreneurship in action: Nordico Coffee Roasters organized a high school workshop in Santa Cruz to support student founders and community education.

Costa Rica entrepreneurship workshop — Nordico Coffee Roasters with high school students in Santa Cruz

At Nordico Coffee Roasters, we believe that supporting our community goes beyond serving great coffee. It means being present where growth happens—sometimes in farms and cafés, and sometimes in classrooms, where the next generation begins to imagine their futures.

Recently, we had the privilege of participating in an entrepreneurship workshop at CTP 27 de Abril in Santa Cruz, a technical high school that plays an important role in shaping young professionals in Guanacaste. For us, it was more than a visit. It was a reminder of why we do what we do: to be part of a stronger, more creative, and more opportunity-filled Costa Rica.

Why Nordico Was There

Since 2024, Nordico has welcomed students from CTP 27 de Abril for two-week internships, offering real work experience inside our coffee operations. Next year, we will deepen this collaboration through the dual education program with MEP, strengthening our commitment to youth development and local education.

Being invited to return to the school for their entrepreneurship activity felt natural. It aligned with our purpose: to encourage curiosity, responsibility, and real-world thinking among young people in our community.

A Meaningful Day Inside the Classroom

Costa Rica entrepreneurship — in the classroom

Walking through the doors of the high school revealed a setting filled with energy—modern facilities, dedicated teachers, and students eager to learn. It was a space full of possibility.

The workshop was simple but powerful. Students were divided into small groups and asked to act as startups, while a few classmates became “investors.” Their task: pitch a business idea clearly and convincingly.

What impressed us most was not the polish of their presentations, but their creativity, honesty, and perspective.

Some of the ideas included:

Healthy cookies made with chia, bougainvillea, and rosemary

A unique concept—unexpected yet full of personality. Even without perfect logistics, the originality stood out and sparked true engagement among the “investors.”

A botanical garden for tourism in Tamarindo

A vision centered on conservation and community value. The financing wasn’t fully defined, but the heart of the project was strong.

An event planning company

Structured, organized, and rooted in teamwork. With more detail on costs and logistics, it could easily evolve into a real service.

Surf and nature tours in Marbella

A project grounded in local knowledge and a deep appreciation for Guanacaste’s natural beauty. With clearer pricing and planning, the idea had real potential.

Each group approached their concept with enthusiasm, confidence, and a clear sense of purpose. Watching them pitch reminded us that entrepreneurship begins long before a company is formed—it begins with a willingness to imagine something that does not yet exist.

What This Experience Means to Nordico

Nordico has always been more than a coffee roastery. Our identity is built on community, education, authenticity, and long-term responsibility.

We roast specialty Costa Rican coffee.
We innovate through cold brew and ready-to-drink development.
We operate cafés and create meaningful hospitality spaces.
But the heart of our company lives in the relationships we build—with farmers, customers, collaborators, and young people who are just starting to explore the professional world.

Being present at CTP 27 de Abril reaffirmed our belief that companies have a role to play in supporting not only the economy, but the human potential of their communities. Internships, educational programs, and activities like this entrepreneurship workshop are not obligations for us—they are investments in a stronger Costa Rica.

A Quiet but Powerful Form of Impact

It is easy today to see business only through the lens of growth metrics or digital visibility. But true impact often happens quietly, in moments like these—when a student feels understood, when an idea sparks confidence, or when a simple activity reveals that someone believes in their future.

We left the school feeling hopeful. One of the young “investors” showed a level of engagement that made us smile—perhaps a small seed was planted that day. And who knows? Maybe one day those bougainvillea cookies will reach the market.

What matters to us is this:
If Nordico can help even one young person see that entrepreneurship is possible, meaningful, and within reach, then we have already succeeded.

Looking Ahead

Our commitment to education will continue through internships, collaboration with teachers, and participation in national programs. We are proud to be part of a community where professionals, students, and businesses support one another—and we are grateful to Professor Deiver Morales Pizarro, Don Omar, and the entire team at CTP 27 de Abril for opening their doors and creating spaces where teenagers can experience what real life is about.

Moments like these remind us that every bag of coffee, every cup we serve, and every new project we launch is connected to something bigger: a belief in people, in learning, and in the future of Costa Rica.

Costa Rica entrepreneurship lives in classrooms like Santa Cruz’s CTP 27 de Abril—young people testing ideas, supported by Nordico Coffee Roasters and a community that believes in them.
